Remaining Chickens Named

At the beginning of the year when we got our chicks, I said, "We can not and will not name the chicks."  If there was the possibility of eating them, they could not be named.

Well, now that we have three chickens left out of the original sixteen, I guess they deserve to have names.

The rooster is Brutis.  He's a Chochin.  My spelling might be wrong.  He is big and white.  Feathered legs and feet.  Very pretty, if a chicken can be pretty.  Wait, my husband just said Brutis is NOT a chicken.  He is a Rooster.  It's a male thing apparently.

The Delaware hen is Nell.  Don't ask me why, just cuz.

The Red Sexling hen is Annie.  I don't know if she's an orphan, but resembles the red hair of Annie in the movie.

So, guess there will only be store bought chicken for our meals for this year.  Wasn't sure I could really butcher one of my chickens, but that is why none of them got to be named.  Will try again next year.

But, I will enjoy the eggs these two last hens are providing on a daily basis.

Sorry dogs, not enough for you now.  The consequences of your actions.  Guess the dogs should be considered innocent until proven guilty.  No way to prove anything.  Just can't figure out what else could have happened.

Part of Life Off the Grid.
