A New Life Off the Grid

I can't believe it's been pretty close to one year since all this started.

So much has happened in that year.  The life of a year ago is gone.  Totally gone.  A victim of the construction industry collapse.  Too bad.  It was a good life for such a long time.  Then it became just existing.  Going to work and trying to have enough to pay the bills and still feed us and our animals.  It took its toll.  Really too bad.

But onward to a new adventure.

I can't seem to get away from the idea of living off the grid though.

This time, for the moment, it is an option.  There is an electric line connected to where I live.  Last winter for almost a week there was no electricity coming into the house on those lines though.  There was a really bad ice storm.  Broken power lines all over the area.  We had a wood stove to provide heat. We had a gas generator, but couldn't get it started.  Maybe old gas?  So, what did we do for power?  Luckily my dad had a system of precharged batteries just for such an emergency.  Those provided enough electricity to give us some light once it got dark in the evening.

My dad is a pretty clever guy.  He has spent most of his life building things.  Things like a steam plant that uses wood to generate steam for power.

He is now working on using that steam plant to provide electricity and heat to his bug out vehicle.  Yes, he is also a prepper.  His vehicle of choice is also his bug out home, a 30-foot motorhome.

This should be very interesting.
